New to this journey
Newly diagnosed. Meeting my team Tuesday at KU. What questions should I ask? What do you wish you knew sooner?
I have ductal carcinoma in situ and mestactic carcinoma in one lymph node. Personally, I have always felt strongly that I will opt for a double mastectomy as we have a strong family history and I’m 46.
TIA
Welcome! I think that's a choice I would be very comfortable with. For what it's worth, when I want some direction from my doctors, I ask "If it were your wife/sister/daughter, what would you tell her?" and they usually have an answer ready.
Good luck with everything! What I wish I had known when I started was that I would come out of it with many positives. My perspective is better, my relationships are stronger, and I've met new people. I would strongly suggest that you let people help you even if you don't "need" it. I always did everything myself because I never wanted to be a bother to anyone. But I let people drive me to some of my appointments (the scary ones) and bring me food and we grew closer as a result.
I had a preventative double mastectomy at KU in September. Happy to answer any questions for you. Who are you seeing?
sending you all of my love!
@fiercelyfiesty I also had Dr. Wagner as my surgeon and she was fantastic! Best surgeon I know. I really did gave the option to do a lumpectomy or mastectomy and with her guidance, I decided the double mastectomy was the right choice for me. I still stand by this decision.
