I am interested in starting a meditation practice. Several years ago I tried the Headspace app but I felt like all the sessions were basically the same thing. If anyone has a suggestion of how to get started or wants to join me and keep me accountable, I'd appreciate that.

Hi, I finished with active treatment about six months ago. I have already had two mild "scares" that I had to do MRI's for but all was good. I feel like I'm still in the halo from treatment so nothing scared me too much, but I'm wondering if as time goes on I will start to feel more vulnerable. Like, will every random and unexplainable symptom in my body make me think my cancer has returned? Other than that, I am doing pretty well on my hormone blocker but still dealing with side effects from radiation.

It’s been 1 year and 4 months since my last radiation. I’ve been on the estrogen blocking pill Anastrozole and I have to take it for 5-7 years. I have not had any side effects on this pill, but I did have side effects from taking Letrozole. That pill made me angry at everything. I kept thinking it was in my head, so I stayed on it for 6 months. I finally told my oncologist that I think the pill was making me “not myself”. She switched me to Anastrozole and I’m back!

I had my procedure done at KU on a Friday morning and had results by Monday at 8:00AM.

Settling into the wait

My wait from mammogram to cancer diagnosis was nine days, which I assume is pretty typical. I found that there was an arc to my distress: the first few days of waiting were hard, then I settled into it, and then the last few days were hard. I did share with a handful of people the fact that I was waiting on biopsy results, and for the most part that helped me, although not everything that people say is helpful. What I liked the best was when someone said "I'm here for you whatever happens" so I try to take that approach with others now.

Waiting for the results of my biopsy was really hard. I tried to stay positive, but I knew in my heart that I had breast cancer. When the Dr. called I was home alone. I got all information and tried not to cry while I was talking to him. My husband was out of town so I called him after I got off the phone with the Dr. He was in a meeting and excused himself to talk to me. He was really wonderful at telling me to stay positive and we would fight this together.

After I was diagnosed with breast cancer I wanted to find out if I had the BRCA gene. I have a daughter and wanted to know if I was passing on this gene. The results would also lead me to my surgery decision… positive for the gene I would get a mastectomy. Negative for the gene I would get a lumpectomy. PTL it was negative and I had a lumpectomy with reconstruction.

It sounds very strange to say that, I know. Around the time I was diagnosed (April 2017) I received a new credit card as mine was expiring. The expiration on my new VISA was 5 removed link For some reason I thought "I wonder if I will make it until the credit card after this one". Strangely enough, that became my first goal.
