ABOUT GARY WALKER:
Sgt. Gary Walker is a decorated U.S. Air Force veteran, entrepreneur, artist, radio show host and nonprofit founder whose life was transformed through creativity and resilience.
Gary served from 1983–1990 and was injured in the line of duty while stationed in West Germany. After 14 back surgeries, he lives with chronic pain and PTSD. Following the sale of the business he and his wife had built over 25 years, Gary faced a profound identity loss and mental health crisis that nearly cost him his life. A pivotal phone call from his mother urging him to paint redirected that path, launching a healing journey through art.
A graduate of a Veteran/First Responder PTSD program, Gary experienced firsthand the power of creative expression in recovery. He founded Monkey Brain Art to help veterans and others struggling with PTSD use art, meditation and mindfulness as tools for healing.
In 2019, Gary stepped into another defining role as caregiver to his wife and high school sweetheart during her battle with breast cancer. Through surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, he stood beside her as advocate, protector, and partner. Today, she is cancer-free.
