Almost 3 years since diagnosis

February 2025 will mark 3 years since my breast cancer diagnosis. KU Med continues to provide me with excellent care and follow up. I completed over a year of treatment at KU Med. All my doctors and nurses and technicians and PA’s have been wonderful. My physicians are responsive when I ask a question in my portal. My followup cancer screenings are done with care and concern for my physical and mental well being. Anytime I am concerned about something the doctor listens and orders tests to rule out any issues. To my knowledge, KU is the only one in our area. I recommend reading about this designation by the National Cancer Institute at cancer.gov.

I had my mastectomy, reconstruction and hysterectomy at KU. I loved my all my surgeons! Dr. Jamie Wagner did my mastectomy. Dr. Rebecca Farmer did my reconstruction and implants. Dr. Meredith Gray did my hysterectomy. All were amazing and so easy to talk to!

I felt very cared for by the KU Cancer Center team. My breast surgeon has retired, sadly, but my plastic surgeon, Julie Holding, is still there. I would go back to her if I needed to replace my implants. She was confident and caring. I had genetic testing done at KU, which was important for my family. I currently attend Breast Cancer Survivorship annually and see Lori Ranallo, Nurse Practitioner; she is THE BEST!! Each member of my team helped me through this difficult process.

I had an excellent experience at KU Med Cancer Center. From day one the team at KU Med walked me through my treatment plan. I had done some research on physicians by calling friends in town and so I figured out who I wanted my doctors to be. Then when I spoke to KU med’s coordinator I requested my oncologist, radiation oncologist, and breast surgeon by name and they were able to make those requests become my breast cancer team. All my physicians were excellent and knowledgeable and kind and I am grateful for their expertise and care.
