This is a new adventure
I just found out that I have breast cancer last Monday. I have had a mammogram, sonogram, and biopsy. They think it is DCIS, but KU is going to do further testing in 2 weeks. I had a mammogram in February and it came back normal, though I do have very dense breast tissue. 2 weeks seems a long time to wait. I have been exercising and eating healthy, but I am waking up every hour after 12:30 a.m. I am 66, but still work as a para with special needs children. I still do my grateful journal and right now I feel like I am in a holding pattern until my appointment. Any words of wisdom?
The waiting game can be the hardest part of this journey you are embarking on. You are not alone! I am so glad you came here and voiced your thoughts so others can support you. I will say, through my experience, the doctors will make things go faster if they see a need for it. I had to wait a month to meet with the team of doctors to go over the plan. You've got this!
@23byebyeboobies Thank you. While this is scary, Tuesday can not come fast enough! (My first appointment at KU)
Hope your followup appointment went well. If you have any questions, reach out on this platform to get help, be heard, or receive a virtual hug.
Start a 3 ring binder that you can keep EVERYTHING organized in (lab/xray/dr & Other appointments, people who have offered to help etc). It will help if you see multiple disciplines with this journey. Make a list of "feel good" things to do, etc, people you can contact for various things...like support, errands, rides, food, etc. A lot of people offer help in the beginning, but then as things progress you may forget who/what or be shy at requesting help. IT'S OK TO ASK FOR HELP!!! When you find out a treatment plan, go over who has offered what and let them know so they can step up and help. Also start a list of foods you like or don't tolerate etc...it helps when someone offers to bring food. Make sure a significant other has access to this so if you are sleeping or under the weather, they can step up and help coordinate. I love to help strategize so contact me if you want help with anything... Good luck! Keep on keeping on!
I had a DXM on July 3rd with reconstruction. Sentinel lymph nodes were taken from my left and they are okay. Plastic surgeon appointment this week, oncologist next week. Slowly getting the drains removed. I will not know the next steps until the path report on the 22nd. My oncologist did say the margins seemed clear. Taking it one day at a time. Pain is not too bad. Naps are very nice. My Peace Out Recliner is a God send. My husband, family, and coworkers have been very supportive. Just remembering to breathe. 🙂
