Dr. Balanoff was excellent to work with. She is a most compassionate and skilled breast surgeon. She spent a great deal of time with my husband and I on the first visit discussing staging, receptors, my pathology report, indications for chemo and surgical options. Due to a positive lymph node and a HER2+ tumor, I was referred to Dr. Sharma (Oncology) as both were indications for chemo before surgery. I had a great experience with Dr. Larson at KU Med for my lumpectomy with one lymph node removed. Dr. Freund was the surgeon who placed and removed my port and he was outstanding as well.

Dr. Shook and his team are AMAZING! They organized all my appointments and were super helpful with any questions I had. Dr. Shook is one of the best in his field and I am grateful he did my surgery. I could not be happier with the follow up care as well!!! (You can go to him at St. Luke’s on the Plaza or at St. Luke’s South)

I felt very lucky to have been assigned Dr. Balanoff at KU as my surgeon. I found her and her team to be very caring and supportive. Surgery was the first team that I met with in my journey and Dr. Balanoff an her staff gave me all the time I needed to feel comfortable with our plan of attack.

Dr. William Freund at KU, Surgicenter at KUMW off Midland.

Dr. Freund placed port for chemo and ultimately removed it after I was done (and they were confident I didn't need it any longer)! He did a great job and I had no issues or concerns with the port. I don't remember her name, but I very much remember the kindness of my anesthesiologist when she talked to me before my port placement. She was one of those kind souls along the way with the gift of encouragement. I could not be happier with Dr. Mindi Beahm. She is professional but also warm, and she did a great job with my surgery! I had a lumpectomy (3 cm) and 3 lymph nodes removed, and you honestly couldn't tell by looking within a matter of months. Margins were clear too. She never seems rushed, is always happy to talk about whatever I need to talk about, and she's great at communicating. On more than one occasion, she picked up the phone to call me herself with results, which surprised me. Highly recommend!

Dr. Balanoff was my breast surgeon for a lumpectomy. She is kind and talented and did a great job walking me through the breast cancer surgery process after diagnosis. She also paired me with a plastic surgeon she worked with (Dr. DeSouza) so I could have plastic surgery at the same time as my lumpectomy.
