One of the silver linings of breast cancer is that many of my friendships got stronger. So many people reached out and dropped off food or gifts or told me how much they cared about me, which was really touching. I have a stack of cards that I will treasure forever. I will say though that it was surprising who stepped up and who didn't. There were people who "came out of the woodwork" but also some who were a little MIA. I didn't take that personally. We all have busy lives and we are all really different when it comes to what we consider private matters.
